I have been using the new Meta Quest 3 headset for several days and am impressed.
This headset is better than Meta Quest 2 as it addresses some of the inherent problems with virtual reality technology.
There may be one or two versions more to hit the sweet spot of where this technology should be. We are also still missing an “iller game or app” to drive people to our platform.
This week, let’s discuss what Meta Quest 3 did right, what improvements it needs to make, and what the next killer app or game could look like for this device.
Let’s close with the product I chose for this week: a pair of intelligent adjustable-focus sunglasses from 32degN.
Meta Quest 3 Improvements
Meta Quest 2 was a step up from previous VR attempts. The device’s wireless and untethered nature meant that you wouldn’t get tangled or trip over a cord. It was not bad-looking, but it was a little too large for me.
Quest 2 was uncomfortable, but you can buy head straps to improve the comfort. It also has several games, like Beat Saber, that I enjoy playing for at least 30 minutes (VR isn’t recommended for longer than 30 minutes due to motion sickness).
The Quest 2 headset had a liheadsetield of vision. Its low resolution makes you feel as if you are watching through a screen. It also lacked games and entertainment comparable to Halo or Mario Bros. The view was not great, even though you could see through the device with built-in cameras. This made it difficult to create a safe area for the headset.
Meta Quest 3 is a headset of a new generation. It is comfortable, even without third-party straps. It looks better (though I would prefer black instead of white), and the sound is better.
The Quest 3 camera is much better than that of the Quest 2 device. It automatically creates a safe space to play, but I have to make more room in my office. The space it created would be enough to fill a closet.
Meta Quest 3 Outshines its Predecessor
Quest 3 is much more enjoyable than Quest 2. Meta has improved the user interface and the number of games available on the headset, but I still find myself listening to the games that I loved on Quest 2.
Meta Quest 3 offers a significantly improved experience thanks to the use of QQualcomm’s Snapdragon 2 Gen 2 platform, which is much more powerful than Meta Quest 22’s Gen 1 platform.
Quest 3 will also show your hands in a more realistic way, so it is likely that yyou’llsee an increase in the number of games where you can use just your hands instead of controllers. Meta Quest 3 also has customizable straps and surrounds for the face so that you can change the color of your device.
Anticipating Meta Quest 4
In about a month, I anticipate that a new version of the headset will be released to address anheadsetning deficiencies in Meta Quest 3. Meta Quest 4 will have better cameras to allow you to see the world around you in its fullest fidelity.
Meta Quest 2 is like a heavy fog. Quest 3 feels like looking through a light fog. Quest 4 is supposed to be like looking out of a window. It should also be able to handle more processing power so that you can blend the virtual and the real.
Wrapping up: What is the ultimate holiday pick for VR enthusiasts?
Meta Quest 3 has to be the best VR headset on the market today. It’s she and ads affordable, offers a great experience, and includes a large amount of Quest 2 content (some updated).
AAsgard’s Wrath 2 is a freebie, but it will be released in December. I haven’t played it yet. As a teaser, Meta Quest 3 comes with a free six-month trial of the Meta Quest+ virtual reality gaming subscription.
VR games are individual experiences. If you have more than one child, they will each need their headset. Multiple headsets are expensive, between headsets and $650 for models that have additional memory. It would keep one child off the floor and not tie up your TV as a console does.
A VR game can be more aerobic than a standard console game, which could make it healthier for both adults and children. This could make a great gift for the right child or adult. But I would first check to see if they want to play a VR game. Beat Saber, Resident Evil 4, and other VR games are much more immersive when using the new headset. Here’s a Video of some of the headset immersive games for the headset. I prefer the Iron Rebellion headset Mech that was released for Quest 2. This game wasn’t upgraded Quest 3 and, playit s well on the headset.
Make sure the headset is compatible with the game headset the recipient wants to play. It ‘sn’t much after the holidays if you don’t
You might want to buy this to entertain guests if you are having people over for the holidays. Even watching someone use a VR headset is entertaining. It hasheadsetetr, especially for those who’ve never used one before. This is a good option for those who want the VR headset but without a must-have gameheadsettrue that it can liven up the holidays, but iisn’tin the same league as consoles with a large following. However, with each update, it gets closer. IIt’snot a must-have for many, but for the right child or adult, it might be. Check with the recipient to see if they are interested in VR and if there is a particular game that they would be excited to play. Then, proceed from there.
32degN ”mart”Sunglasses
Smart glasses are usually designed to provide information on the display. However, I have always believed that truly smart glasses would first address fundamental challenges in eyewear: light and focus.
The 32degN shades do this, and you can switch from dark glasses to reading glasses by swiping your hand across the earpiece or touching the earpiece.
The glasses don’t contain any information. These are just reading glasses that can be transformed into glasses. If you wear reading glasses and find it difficult to read small text on your dashboard or you don’t always have your glasses with you, then these glasses could work for you.
I would like to see some things fixed.
Even in reading mode, for example, the glasses retain their tint. If you can’t see in a dimly lit restaurant, improving text legibility will not do much good if the glasses are dark. Integrating adaptive optics to automatically lighten the glasses in low-light conditions would make them much more useful.
It would be ideal if they could also show data like other smart glasses. These aren’t quite there, but they allow people who wear dark glasses all the time and require reading glasses to read smaller types without having to take multiple pairs of glasses.
You must download the app to your phone and then adjust them to make sure they work. The glasses won’t work without this calibration, which I found out the hard way.
